Sometimes in life, you meet the exact people you are supposed to meet, at exactly the right moment in time, and a beautiful friendship is formed. Kimberly and I met at one of those serendipitous times of change…a friendship forged in tennis balls on public courts, nights out at live music, and a sisterhood in transition. All of my life, I’ve wished I was the mysterious, cool, hip girl that always seemed to just be so zen under all circumstances (anyone who knows me knows I am the exact OPPOSITE of this description). Kim is everything I always wished I could pretend to be, but for her, the cool just comes naturally. Unphased. Engaged. Content. A lover of nature and the natural. And it is reflected in all she does and the family that she has created with perhaps, the only person on the planet as cool as she is.

Kim and I lived together in an old mill building across the street from the coolest venue in the New Hampshire seacoast area, The Stone Church. From Thursday to Sunday, virtually every week, we would walk up Zion Hill to the “Church” for live music, drinks, and friends. At that time, in the 1990’s – early 2000’s, the entire social scene in New England revolved around local music, and friend groups were often even aligned to bands. Having met Peter Prince and Alan Evans in 1994 upon arriving in New Hampshire for college, I was firmly in the Moon Boot Lover camp, living with Peter as a roommate for many years off and on. Kim and I actually met initially at a Moon Boot Lover show, as she and her roommates at the time were also in the Moon Boot Lover camp. It was through this social group that Kim met the man who became the love of her life, drummer Alan Evans, all of us living together in the mill building before the two of them left New Hampshire and moved back to Buffalo, NY. Today, they have been married for decades, have raised two amazing children and are still as in love as they were when they met all those years ago.

I based this portrait on old picture of Kim, which I think absolutely captures the zen that she radiates. I used two different types of fabric - black with gold stars and white with black stars - because, she is the epitome of a rock star. Her face has two beautiful yellow butterflies and gold / silver stars and moons glitter. She is wearing a Fremont Antique Glass sweatshirt with gold sparkle and there is a piece of fabric sandwiched between glass that says, “Life is better with friends.” Because it truly is. ❤️

This next piece is entitled, “Kim.” It is a tribute to my friend and former roommate, our continued friendship for nearly 30 years, and the beauty of serendipity leading to lifelong friendships. Love you Kim!
