E Scott

E Scott loves to sing. No, I mean she LOVES to sing. She will bust out in song pretty much anywhere, at any time, for absolutely no reason. I suppose when you are pretty much the only one in your immediate family that did NOT end up being a classically trained vocalist performing on the biggest stages on the planet, that is what ends up happening (in all fairness, Erica has a lovely voice and hearing her sing was ALWAYS one of my favorite things).

Most of my summers in Portsmouth, NH were spent with E Scott. Perhaps the only thing she loves to do as much as sing, is laugh. I don’t think there is anyone I have spent more time with laughing until there were tears coming down my face, than Erica. Whether it was summer festivals or drinking mudslides on the decks or hanging at State Street (followed by Kizzy and Wyatt’s place upstairs), or playing shuffleboard on the beach (much to the horror of a certain NH senator and his wife), or playing charades (yes, I have that video blackmail, uh, I mean, footage to this day) until late into the night. I love her so much I dragged some two ton TV console to like, 3 different houses after agreeing to take it (ok, you got me on that one). If you know her, you know she is from Sparta, NJ and you know that because you have absolutely heard her break into random cheerleading chants about the Sparta Spartans in the most random times and places. And on the day I married my first husband, Erica was one of my bridesmaids…natural given how much time our couples crew (none of which are still in relationships at this point) spent together.

But lest you think she is all fun and games (well, I mean, maybe 90% fun and games)! E Scott is probably one of the biggest bad asses, professionally, that I have ever known. Leading brand strategy for companies like Escada (she basically lived the Devil Wears Prada), David Yurman, Signet, and some of the biggest high end fashion orgs on the globe. It’s a good thing she can laugh, because the stress of those jobs is enough to make you forget what it means to laugh.

I remember one year while I was still playing tennis a TON, Erica went to NY for an event. She called me, from the US Open, and said, “it’s a shame you aren’t here. It’s all these pro tennis dudes and I have no clue who any of them are!” Um, ok, so you are hanging out with all the pros at the US Open? Got it. 😳 Random. Totally E Scott M.O.

Erica and I always had the opposite taste when it came to guys. She knows EXACTLY what that means (don’t you, Erica? lol). She ended up leaving the US, meeting a man in Denmark and having the most lovely daughter, who just looks so much like Erica. And with a role model like the one she has, I am sure Julia will follow in her footsteps and be hugely successful in life. Seeing the love she has for her daughter fills my heart with joy. I know there are a lot of tears in life, but with a mom like Erica, that laughter will far outweigh the tears.

My next portrait is none other than my booby walk partner from NH, “E Scott.” I am so grateful for the laughter over the years and I only wish we saw each other more. It is based on a photo of her laying on the beach (her favorite pastime), as always, looking hot (figuratively and literally). Because she is a fashionista, in the photo she is wearing a CARE BEARS HAT (god I freakin love you) and laying on a towel. In my portrait, her hat has Golden Girls fabric with random funny sayings, including, “thank you for being a friend,” for all the times she cracked me up and the brim is fabric with gummy bears because it was the closest thing I had to Care Bears lol. She is laying on a towel made of Fremont Antique Glass, high class like the lifestyle she lives, and she is wearing a seashell necklace as a reminder of her time in Florida, the last place we were able to hang out. Her face has pastel, dichroic glitter, flamingo glitter, pressed flowers and the words, “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive!” And thrive she does…
